Automatic Charging of Auto and MC Batteries With Recond Function

Cold weather performance

The MXS 5.0 comes with automatic temperature compensation for the best charging performance, even in extreme conditions.

With stop-start technology becoming increasingly widespread, the new MXS 5.0 model now gains a dedicated mode for AGM batteries commonly used in this type of vehicle. It also gains multi-mode functionality (denoted by the red mode button), meaning it’s now possible to select AGM and RECOND charge profiles in any mode – so you can run a recondition cycle on a smaller battery, or optimally charge a small AGM to the correct voltage.

The MXS 5.0 is an advanced microprocessor controlled battery charger which gives unrivalled performance for lead acid batteries from 1.2-110Ah. It comes with automatic temperature compensation built in which ensures the best charging performance, even in the most extreme conditions. The CTEK MXS 5.0 also includes battery diagnosis to establish whether your battery can receive and retain a charge, patented automatic desulphation program, an AGM option which maximises the performance life of most Stop/Start batteries and a special Recond mode for reconditioning deeply discharged batteries. The MXS 5.0 uses CTEK’s patented float/pulse system, which is the most efficient maintenance mode when a battery is connected for long periods. Ideal for use on cars, motorcycles, jet skis, caravans, etc.

CTEK - Frequently Asked Questions

CTEK chargers need some counter voltage to start providing tension/current.  If there's a poor connection between the charger and the battery, charging will not start. If the battery is below 2 volts, charging will not start.

Yes, CTEK chargers are designed to fully charge a battery and then automatically switch over to long term maintenance. Before leaving the charger unattended for a long time, ensure that the battery is fully charged, as indicated by the green LED.

The charger stays in float maintenance mode for 10 days, keeping the battery topped up using the minimum level of current.

After 10 days, the program moves on to the last stage – pulse level – for long term maintenance.

Yes, this is normal when the charger is working hard in the bulk charge phase. The heat is generated in certain circumstances, depending on the battery that's being charged.

The charger does not necessarily heat up when it's charging other types of battery.

Choose charger depending on the size of your battery.

Charging with a smaller charger than recommended will take longer time and will not optimally extend the battery life and performance.

If your battery has an Ah rating that exceeds that of the charger limit it could mean that the charger will be unable to charge the battery sufficiently and may even lead to it becoming discharged.

Charging with a bigger charger than recommended will not result in a completely charged battery and will not optimally extend the battery life and performance.

No, Lithium batteries need a different type of charger to lead-acid batteries. We do not recommend using a CTEK charger designed for lead-acid batteries.

Charging lead-acid batteries with a Lithium charger will not give the best results and cannot be recommended.
