Helpful Note
If you use your motorcycle regularly throughout the year (at least a few times per week), your battery is more likely to stay in good condition. However, many bikes are used less during the winter months, which can lead to the battery becoming discharged. Once deeply discharged, a battery may not fully recover and can perform poorly in the spring.
If this sounds familiar, we recommend the following:
- At the end of the season, remove the battery from your motorcycle
- Fully charge it before storage
- Store it in a dry, frost-free location, ideally off the ground
- Recharge the battery every 6–8 weeks for up to 24 hours
If you choose to leave the battery on the bike, be aware that small electrical drains may discharge it over time. In this case, it’s important to check the voltage regularly with a meter to ensure it remains in good condition.
Many battery issues in spring are caused by a lack of maintenance during storage rather than a fault with the battery itself. A little care over the winter can significantly extend its lifespan.
